Buying Decision - a New House Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
Buying Decision - a New House - Essay Example Key words: House, Economy, Domestic Economy, GDP - Gross Domestic Product, BEA - The Bureau of Economic Analysis, purchasing power, inflation, international trade. John & Tia are living in a rented studio apartment at a location near to their offices and commercial area which is ideal for them. However, they are expecting a baby and require bigger space to have room for babyââ¬â¢s nursery and a location that is near to clinic / hospital, school, nurseries, day care centers and other social service offices they might need to consult after they have the baby along with continuation of their respective careers. Both to-be-parents are confused whether to rent a bigger place or make the ultimate investment of buying their own house in an economy that is gradually improving from recession. This is a major investment for the couple that requires a substantial financial expenditure which is going to alter their financial position, spending habits, saving percentage etc. Consequences of th is substantial investment would firstly require savings and other investments evaluation. They have been saving for few years and have sufficient amount to make the down payment and pay mortgage for at least a year. Hence they are prepared financially however, they need to be emotionally willing to take the huge plunge into this big investment as well as cope with resulting restrictions, requirements and tradeoffs involved. They need to assess whether their current income flow is sustainable and can support mortgage payments for the future period. If mother-to-be has to quit job in order to take care of the baby would they be able to afford making payments regularly and how will they manage their financials? They also need to evaluate if it is the right time to take the leap or they should stick to rented option. Their detailed assessment of the economic situation, evaluation based on economic factors and weighing down of options is given below. Majority of the decisions we make as consumers are directly related to or influenced by the prevailing economic conditions. Our future plans are shaped in accordance with our expectation of how the economy will perform. We shall refer to a few of N. Gregory Mankiwââ¬â¢s principles related to the principle of making the purchase decision and influencing factors. According to Mankiw, there is no ââ¬Å"free lunchâ⬠we must give up something in order to get something i.e. every decision has its costs / tradeoff. In our case tradeoffs are the plans couple had already made earlier that they now need to forego or put on hold, such as yearly vacation and a new car. They would also have fewer saving hence restricted spending priorities since now they also have to consider extra savings for future expenses related to raising a child as well as maintain the new house if the go ahead with the decision. Further tradeoffs would be loss of interest income being earned on the savings and opportunity cost lost on account of no t having the same amount invested to gain profit. This factor would evolve into the second principle by Mankiw which involves considering and weighing the costs of decisions, i.e. opportunity cost which is ever present. The couple would be losing on the opportunity to have the amount saved and interest being earned giving them financial strength instead of having it spent on down payment, monthly mortgage payment and insurance payments. General Agreement on Tariffs & Trade Research Paper
General Agreement on Tariffs & Trade - Research Paper Example Such direct and indirect non-tariff barriers can be suicidal to the interests of an exporting firm. It cannot run its business and the same applies to the importing country; if the importing country has alternative sources of getting the same product, it can manage but the exporting firm has to change its business planning strategy and need to find out new locations to export is stock, which can be dead stock if no other foreign marketplaces an order for the same produce. Management has to be always on the alert to take bold decisions as per the new reality. Scope and horizon of GATT are necessary to know before knowing the basic principles of GATT. GATT 1947 rules were framed to be applicable in trade of goods only. GATT 1947 played a dominant role in minimizing tariff and non-tariff barriers in world trade but worldwide problems were surfaced where GATT could not play a positive role in resolving the issues. Certain areas of business were not part of the GATT responsibilities like trade in services and agriculture-related issues of continuous quarrels among nations. Trade in textile and apparel was left out of the GATT scope because of the politically touchy nature of these industries. Left out of the scope of GATT were intellectual property rights issues. GATT could not succeed in controlling ââ¬Å"unfair tradeâ⬠practices ((Schaffer et al., 2009, p. 297). GATT 1994 came in effect to address the limitations of the previous agreement on trade. GATT 1994 included two most important agreements on WTO Final Agreement representing the Uruguay Round of Multilateral Trade Negotiations and the WTO Agreement Establishing the World Trade Organization. GATT 1994 included other than the earlier provisions of GATT 1947, a number of multilateral trade agreements on particular issues ((Schaffer et al., 2009, p. 297).

Measuring Attitudes Towards Exercise Among Secondary School Students Essay
Measuring Attitudes Towards Exercise Among Secondary School Students - Essay Example The main strength of Likertââ¬â¢s method is its simplicity and reliability in producing results which are accurate and useful. Once the statements have been finalized, the test can be taken by students and administered by teachers who need to have no prior knowledge about the system or behind the scenes workings of the survey. Since test takers can be forced to take a position on a statement, it can also work to provide answers for situations where a decision must be made one way or another. At the same time, the test has been criticized for being too simplistic in nature and not applicable to situations where there is a possibility of having more than one dimension of attitude. Despite this, I believe that the survey would benefit the health campaign tremendously since we would be able to tell the attitude the students have towards exercise in general and the various statements in the survey in particular. The attitude of a person towards a particular statement helps in judging their expected behavior to a great extent. Therefore, knowing this attitude will allow us to gear the campaign in a manner more suited towards changing the attitude of the students (if required) or educating them by removing any negative thoughts they have towards exercise. Knowing the attitude is akin to a marketing study which is conducted by a business for advertisement purposes and if we have a campaign for the students without knowing what they think then at best we would be preaching to the converted and at worse, we would be alienating them.

Drawing from the course materials, discuss one challenge and one Essay
Drawing from the course materials, discuss one challenge and one opportunity presented to a person who takes on the role of frontline manager in a health or social care service - Essay Example The essay also sheds light on two important aspects of a managerââ¬â¢s role: one challenge and one opportunity that he is presented with and the ways in which he can handle them. The role of a manager is easier said than done. Thatââ¬â¢s because he has to shoulder many responsibilities. His actions are under constant vigilance by his peers, subordinates and superiors. Anything good that a manager may try to implement can have possible negative as well as positive effects on the entire organization. Thus well analyzed action plan is a must. Becoming a manager requires constant efforts and determination. It also requires leadership qualities such as patience, ability to lead and guide, perseverance, ability to interact well with everyone, etc. A person achieves this through hard work. Along with the respect that it brings, the managerial responsibilities seep the manager of all his energy and demand careful work at every stage. At a health care service unit, a manager comes to deal with a variety of people such as the care takers or the doctors, the accounting department, the staff, the patients or the consumers or the victims of health problems, managers from other branches of the health care unit and so on. While discussing the managerââ¬â¢s role let us analyze for him, Managerial activity is a process of continuous change (Activity 3.2, p.33). One has to understand the current situation and implement new policies accordingly. No matter whatever are your previous experiences, being a manager is every time a new lesson. The first thing that comes to our mind about a manager is the amount of power that he is entrusted with! Indeed this power can work wonders if handled with opportune execution. He needs to be flexible enough to shape circumstances and adapt to demands of employed people and consumers. With all his powers he has the authority to regularize and implement changes such as discipline, better dress codes,

Case studyfinish 2 questions as i send you - Essay Example tals that outrun the ability of local firms to compete on the same trading scale with them, and as such, have to seek other ways of protecting themselves from the competition posed by such international corporations. The Coca Cola Company, for instance, is one of the major multinational corporations operating in China as the leading market player in beverage drinks. In fact, the company holds nearly 16% of the total market share control of beverages in the Chinese market, which is a huge threat to the local players in the industry. The company is currently planning to spend $ 4 billion between 2015 and 2017 in the Chinese market in order to cut off the stiff competition it is getting from the here as the worldââ¬â¢s most popular beverage drink market. This is just a sign of how much competition the local firms face from established multinational corporations. As such, apart from these firms coming into the domestic market with huge outlays of capital, they also come in with a reputable brand image recognized over a global scale, which makes it difficult for domestic firms to fight their competitive wave. Jianlibao is one of the leading domestic brands in beverage production in China. The brand had humongous success within its home market during the 1990s that spurred the sports drink maker to pursue its dream of expanding into international markets abroad. This move was totally out of line with the companyââ¬â¢s local prospects of protecting and safeguarding its domestic playing field from international market players. For instance, its expansion to dozens of overseas markets created room for the entry of new international players like Coca Cola, which came in with a bang, and aspired to take over the local market. As such, Coca Cola produced a local brand that blended appropriately with the Chinese market, the Kekou Kele, which is among the most effective strategies employed by international firms to adapt to local Chinese markets, as well as, connect with local

Joint Commission Accreditation, Certification, and Licensing Essay Example for Free
Joint Commission Accreditation, Certification, and Licensing Essay Given health record completion policies, correctly apply accreditation or licensing standards to determine the organizationââ¬â¢s compliance. Write a 1-page paper on how you think Joint? organizationââ¬â¢s compliance. Commissionââ¬â¢s standards impact health record completion and organizational compliance. Be sure to discuss advantages/disadvantages of being accredited by Joint Commission. The Joint Commission on Accreditation of healthcare organizations (JCAHO) is a non-profit and independent accreditation organization that provides accreditation and certification for various healthcare organizations, health plans, health packages and hospitals in the US. It has been functioning in the US, and is recognized throughout the world. More than 15, 000 healthcare organizations in the US have been accredited and certified by the Joint Commission. An organization that subscribes to accreditation by the JCAHO would constantly have to make an effort to reach certain performance standards. JCAHO gives greater importance to maintaining patient safety standards and improving the quality of care (The Joint Commission, 2008). The Joint Commission has accredited several aspects of medical care including ambulatory care, assisted living, behavioral healthcare, critical care, laboratory services, home care, surgeries, old age clinics, staff and employees, disease-management, long-term care, etc (The Joint Commission, 2008). It is very important that the healthcare organization complies with the specifications mentioned by the JCAHO. Firstly, the healthcare organization has to understand the importance of having these specifications in place. It would benefit the organization and also the patients, insurance companies, government and the general public. The litigations against malpractice are significantly fewer when a hospital has accreditation. Flowsheets that record detailed information and observations of the patients vitals and care administered would help in precise documentation. An electronic system would act as an aid in ensuring that the specifications of the joint Commission are enforced and followed. Studies have demonstrated that the compliance levels of the JCAHO specifications are around 50 % in all healthcare organizations that subscribe to accreditation by this organization. The outcome of any case would certainly be better if the specifications laid down by the JCAHO are followed. Frequently, the Joint Commission would be conducting surveys and suggested measures to be implemented in order to improve the status of the employees and the patients. One way of ensuring that the organization complies with the JCAHO specifications is to have several monitoring devices in place. These include surprise checks, regular visits, inspection of the records, etc. The information transmitted and stored in the hospital database should be accessible to the JCAHO for the purpose of monitoring. Patient surveys are another method of ensuring compliance by the JCAHO. Another way would be to record the cases of malpractice against the healthcare organization (Massachusetts General Hospital, 2007). There are several requirements a hospital or a healthcare organization has to follow in order to get accredited to the JCAHO. These include: ? Following the recommendations launched by the AMH and the BHC ? Following the requirements of the HIPAA ? Having a system that fulfills the recommendations lay down by the JCAHO regarding flow of information (using software tools such as TIER). ? Some of the important criteria regarding the information management system includes: 1. Maintain confidentiality of the patient information 2. The internal and the external needs have to be addressed through comprehensive planning 3. Security of the information ââ¬â accessibility only to the relevant staff members 4. Data, which can be collected, analyzed and decisions-made. 5. Addressing the education and training needs ââ¬â Information should be presented to the staff members and the patients in an automated manner 6. Information and clinical records presented to the patients should be comprehensive and specific. The Joint Commission accreditation has several advantages and disadvantages. Advantages: â⬠¢ The patients would be having greater confidence in the healthcare organization and health plan. â⬠¢ In the market, there would be greater competition between the healthcare organizations. â⬠¢ The risk management would be more efficient. â⬠¢ The business practices and ethics would improve. â⬠¢ The human resource management process would be better. â⬠¢ Insurance companies and third parties would have better relationships with the healthcare organization. â⬠¢ Compliance with the terms and conditions mentioned by the regulatory bodies would be better. Disadvantages: â⬠¢ Information provided to the JCAHO could be potentially misused. â⬠¢ The hospital would be spending huge sums of money for the purpose of accreditation and would actually not be involved in improving patient care. â⬠¢ Unhealthy competition may be propagated.
